The RAIN has arrived and it looks like it will finally be the wet winter California has been needing. With this winter time weather has come the Delta Sturgeon bite. I have only been on the water three times this fall but have hooked solid sturgeon each trip. The bite will only improve as the rain soak the ground and cause some fresh higher flows. This will get the sturgeon to begin the move to the spawning grounds and pass right through my fishing spots.
Late fall I was using Salmon Roe for bait and now have switched over to eel. The roe is messy and if the fish will hit eel why deal with the mess.
For Sturgeon I use Penn Fathom Reels paired to Fenwick and Phoenix Rods, 40- 50 lb Stren braided line and a 60lb Berkley mono leader. I am fishing from 18 – 24 foot of water. I target the Rio Vista area of the Sacramento Delta.
I will be more available for Guide trips in 2016 and look to making it the most successful season yet. Give me a text or call and lets book a trip of a lifetime full of memories.
God Bless,
